WHAT IS OFF-ROAD INSURANCE?
Registering your off-road vehicle with a number plate is mandatory with ICBC whilst using the vehicle on Crown land, including resource roads. An off-road vehicle is designed for off-highway use and does not meet the safety standards for on-highway use, like your standard car or truck. In the event that you would like to operate your off-road vehicle on a highway, you will need to register it, get a numbered plate, a license, and insurance.
TYPES OF OFF-ROAD VEHICLES:
All-Terrain vehicles (ATV)
Snow vehicles
Snowmobiles
Golf carts
Trucksters
Restricted use motorcycles
WHAT DOES OFF-ROAD INSURANCE COVER?
If you are operating an off-road vehicle on (or across) highways, you’re required to obtain ICBC’s Basic Insurance. However, if you’re operating the off-road vehicle on forest service roads, you’ll need at least 200,000 in Third Party Liability, this can be obtained through ICBC or a private insurer. On all other Crown lands, liability insurance is voluntary but is recommended.
Private Insurance is available for most off-road vehicles, this policy can consist of Collision, Comprehensive, Replacement, and Storage insurance coverages. To receive a free quote, submit the form below and an agent will be in touch shortly!
